Colwood Refueling Facility

The project was located at the Canadian Forces Base in Esquimalt Harbour on Vancouver Island near Victoria, British Columbia. The scope of work was to supply and install fifty seven 48” diameter concrete filled steel pipe piles with rock sockets and forming and pouring nineteen concrete pile cap piers. Twelve piles required a 2.5 meter 48” diameter rock socket, the remaining forty five piles required a 1.75 meter 36” diameter rock socket. Pile lengths ranged from 20’ to 250’ in some deep areas. Four piers were located in a brecciated rock zone. The piles for these piers required an extra 10 meter depth of lined rock socket. Construction started February 4th 2002 and continued until the end of December 2003. All work was performed in the harbour water off barges as the water depth at the work site ranged from shore to a 50’ depth.
