Initial Construction of Musselwhite Mine

Musselwhite is a gold mine located 500km north of Thunder Bay. The mine started operating in 1997 and in 1996 Pierre Gagné Contracting completed several contracts that were part of the initial construction of the mine.

As part of the work scope we’ve built the backfill shaft with 6 meters in diameter and going 20 meters deep. Extensive excavations and dewatering with multiple well points were required to reach the prescribed depth.

Additionally Pierre Gagné Contracting built the smaller vent shaft, the electrical substation, the pump house and the water intake from the nearby lake. High density polypropylene surface pipes were placed and welded together for the mill and other mining operations purposes.

We’ve also prepared the site for the open pit mine by excavating and removing the overburden.
