Project Description

Construct 12 meter diameter, 15 meter deep sheetpile cofferdam and excavate to bedrock.
Drill blast and excavate 6 meter deep, 8.5 meter diameter rock shaft within the bottom of the 12 meter cofferdam structure. Form and pour 7 meter diameter 25 meter height concrete collar vent raise, within the cofferdam to surface. Supply and install 70 HP 310x79 Steel piles for Vent plenum and blower building. Form and pour 750 cubic meters for pile caps, foundations and slabs for vent shaft plenum and blower building.


Foremost DR40 Drill  -  Pre-drill overburden and drill rock sockets to toe- in the sheetpiling.

4000 Manitowoc 150 Ton Crane  -  Drive sheetpiles and H piles, excavate cofferdam, place walers and general hoisting forms, reinforcing steel and cement.

345 Cat Excavator  -  Excavate cofferdam and general excavation and backfilling.
Volvo L70F Loader  -  Earth moving and backfilling, forklift material handling.
Volvo ECR 145C, Mini Excavator  -  Excavate inside cofferdam structure.
Bauer BG 20 - Augering of caissons and mixing of socket materials
APE Model 200 VIbro - 36" pipe caisson insertion

Project Information

Project was located on the south shore of Opapimiskan Lake in Northwestern Ontario 480 kilometers north of Thunder Bay Ontario.

Construction start-up on site was May 15th 2009 and completed in March 2010.

The work was done by our own crews except subcontractors for form and pour concrete work and the supply and install re-inforcing steel.
