Project Description

Drill and install 131 each   36”diameter steel pipe casings complete with 2.5 meter rock sockets at varying overburden and rock depths.
Install 131 each  HZ 575A king piles into the 36” pipe  casings and rock sockets, complete with concrete tremie poured around the pile in the rock socket.
Extract the 36” pipe casings and install the double AZ26 intermediate sheet piles linked between the available king piles and vibrate down through the overburden with a vibratory hammer.
Install 235 meters of galvanized W610 waler along the inside of soldier pile wall. Excavate and install 15 each double dwydag tie rods complete with concrete anchors, spaced appropriately to tie back the soldier pile wall.
Supply and place 3680 cubic meters of concrete fill between the old wall and new wall and also form and pour concrete pile cap and curb.

Project Information

The project was located in Churchill, Manitoba at the mouth of the Churchill river on Hudsons Bay. Churchill has no access by road, freight and equipment was shipped in and out by rail or by air. The owner pre- purchased the sheet pile and steel beam materials that made up the soldier pile wall system. The work was done by the equipment working off the existing dock, the dock work site was very congested due to the existing warehouse and the overhead conveyor gallery.

The DR 40 drill was set-up on rails to work along the dock. The DR 40 was modified to fit and work on the 50 meter long 6 meter wide section of dock between the warehouse and edge of the dock.
